Statement from DEA President Michael Palladino on Baton Rouge Shooting

Statement from DEA President Michael Palladino on Baton Rouge Shooting

A Message from DEA President Michael J. Palladino –

Over the weekend, we experienced further violence against police … this time it was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where three Officers were killed and other cops seriously wounded in an apparent ambush.

The DEA, on behalf of all of our members, expressed our support and condolences to the members of the Baton Rouge PD.

Last week, cops in Dallas, Texas experienced the violence and hatred directed at law enforcement when five Dallas Officers died and many others were wounded, which unfortunately seems to be a national trend.

There is no doubt in my mind that much of the hatred has been fueled by local and nationally elected officials who demonize Police Officers with their anti-police rhetoric. This, sadly, encourages such violence.

Decriminalization of criminal behavior and the early release of those who should be in prison are dangerous political positions that also go a long way to encourage the violence against us.

Elected officials in our City and this country must publicly condemn the violence and insist that such behavior will not be tolerated.

Unfortunately, at this time, there is no reason to believe the violence is over, so I remind all members to wear your vests at all times. Travel in teams and be aware of those you encounter.  Keep in mind that their behavior may simply be a ruse to distract you from the real pending threat.

Be careful and be safe.
