Help Keep the Killer of Parole Officer Brian Rooney in Prison

Help keep killer Lorenzo “Fat Cat” Nichols, DIN #88-A-1701, in prison for life for ordering the 1985 murder of New York City Parole Officer Brian Rooney. Please help us oppose parole by sending a letter to Ms. Jess Thomas, Supervising Offender Rehabilitation Coordinator, Clinton Correctional Facility, P.O. Box 2000, Dannemora, New York  12929 no later than November 30, 2021. We have included the DEA’s letter below:

Ms. Jess Thomas

Supervising Offender Rehabilitation Coordinator

Clinton Correctional Facility

P.O. Box 2000

Dannemora, New York  12929

Dear Ms. Thomas:

On behalf of the 18,000 members of the Detectives’ Endowment Association, Inc. — the labor union of New York City Police Department Detectives — we are urging the  State of New York to deny parole to Lorenzo Nichols, DIN # 88A1701.

On October 10, 1985, New York City Parole Officer Brian Rooney was shot and killed while he was driving along 119th Avenue in the borough of Queens in New York City. Officer Rooney was shot by a gunman who had been contracted to him. The “hit” was put on Rooney by convicted and incarcerated drug dealer Lorenzo “Fat Cat” Nichols, who, at the time, was in jail, but still directing his “associates” to engage in criminal activity of the most heinous nature. Nichols was in prison for a previous parole violation and it’s believed his motivation was revenge, because Rooney helped send him back to the penitentiary.

Nichols pled guilty to having ordered Officer Rooney’s death and has been serving time at the Clinton Correctional Facility.

Now this murderer wants to be released on parole. For the family, friends, and colleagues of Parole Officer Brian Rooney, there can never be any parole from the pain of his senseless and pre-meditated death. He was killed simply for doing his job of safeguarding the citizens of New York.

The Detectives’ Endowment Association of the Police Department of the City of New York urges the New York State Division of Parole to fulfill its obligation to safeguard the citizenry by keeping cowardly cop killers, especially those who kill in cold blood, behind bars for life. We urge you to deny parole for Lorenzo Nichols when he is brought before the parole Board later this year.

Respectfully yours,

Paul DiGiacomo

President
