RE: Michael Alston (DIN #93A0704/NYSID #03521538N)

Dear Ms. Dignean & Members of the NYS Parole Board:

I request that parole consideration for the above-mentioned prisoner be denied.

On December 28, 1991, Michael Alston murdered New York Police Department Sergeant Keith Levine. At the time of this heinous crime, Alston was committing an additional felony: he was robbing a man at an ATM machine on West 57th Street in midtown Manhattan.

The 27-year-old Sgt. Levine, assigned to the NYPD Communications Division, was driving home around 2:00 a.m. when he witnessed the hold-up. Without considering his own safety, this heroic young member of the service sprang into police action. The perpetrator’s bullets hit Levine twice: once in the abdomen and once in the chest. Sgt. Levine later died at Bellevue Hospital while the perpetrator and his cohorts went on the run.

It was later revealed that at the time of Levine’s murder, Alston was on parole after committing two previous homicides. And now, this remorseless career criminal is once again eligible for parole this December. It hardly seems possible.

For the family, friends, and colleagues of Sgt. Keith Levine there has never been any parole from the pain and frustration of his senseless, sudden death. The misery caused to the Sergeant’s family, friends, and colleagues should not be compounded by the freedom of his ruthless killer.

I urge the Parole Division of the State of New York to deny any parole petition for Michael Alston. This criminal lost his right to freedom the day he gunned down a dedicated, earnest, heroic, young Law Enforcement Officer who was attempting to save the life of another man.

Let justice be served — let’s keep the citizens of New York safe — by keeping Michael Alston in prison for life.

Thank you for considering my position.

Sincerely,
