RE: Francisco Rodriguez — DIN #89A1671
Dear Parole Board:
On September 22, 1987, New York Transit Police Officer Robert Venable and two other policemen were transporting several prisoners to Central Booking in Brooklyn when they were alerted to a call involving several men with firearms. They re-routed to the scene of the radio call, and as they approached the location, two men burst out of an abandoned building at 2569 Pitkin Avenue. It was in the East New York section of the Borough. The men began shooting towards Officer Venable, striking him once in the head. Three hours later, Transit Officer Venable succumbed to his wounds and died.
Officer Venable’s killer, 22-year-old Francisco Rodriguez, was out of prison on parole for 42 days when he opened fire, killing the hard-working public servant who left an eight-year-old daughter to be raised by her grandparents. She is now a middle aged woman who has her own six-year-old son named after her father. And both she and I want to keep her father’s killer in prison for life.
However, Officer Venable’s killer, Francisco Rodriguez, seeks to be paroled. There will never be any parole for the family, friends, and colleagues of P.O. Robert Venable. For decades, they have been left to suffer the pain and frustration of his senseless death. Officer Venable was a devoted son, a devoted civil servant, a devoted father, and an able, enthusiastic Police Officer serving the entire citizenship of New York.
I urge the Parole Division of the State of New York to deny the parole petition of Francisco Rodriguez. This killer lost his right to freedom the day he decided to gun down a New York City Transit Police Officer in cold blood.
Sincerely,
