Gilberto (Gil) Ortiz joined the Police Department in year 2000. He was promoted to Detective in 2014. Gil was elected to his first labor position as a union Delegate in 2021, representing his fellow Detectives in the Real Time Crime Center and the Photo Unit. He was elected the DEA’s Headquarters Welfare Officer in 2022. In 2024, he was elected the DEA Sergeant at Arms. Gilberto is also currently the Vice President of the NYPD Hispanic Society and is involved in many charitable organizations.
