Det. Victor Vargas was appointed to the force on January 13, 1992. He was promoted to Detective on March 3, 1999. He retired from Manhattan North Narcotics on December 31, 2002. Because of illnesses he contracted as a result of his work on the rescue and recovery from the WTC attacks, Det. Vargas passed away on August 23, 2022. He was survived by his spouse, two sons and two daughters.
