As we move forward through 2020, the dangers for police continue to be unprecedented. Once again, we saw during Wednesday, November 4th’s evening violent protests in Manhattan there continues to be people who are looking to harm us. In addition, New York’s politicians also continue to use police as scapegoats — making our jobs even more dangerous.
We want to remind all of our members to protect themselves and their fellow cops as we lead law abiding New Yorkers through the chaos in the streets. As you go about your work, keep in mind that the “diaphragm bill” is still a City law. The DEA is fighting to change this irresponsible law, but please use all necessary precautions when taking any individual into custody.
Over the next many weeks, we expect numerous protests and demonstrations. History has shown us that these events can turn violent quickly. If any Detective is injured, please let a Delegate know as soon as possible so we can file a civil action to ensure there are consequences for these people.
The DEA is always fighting for your rights. In unity there is strength.
Fraternally,
Paul DiGiacomo, President, and the Board of Officers
