The DEA regrets to announce the passing of active Force Investigation Division Det. Charles A. Cato, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident during the early morning hours of December 6, 2024, while returning home from an overnight tour of duty. Det. Cato was 45 years old.
Charles Cato joined the force on July 19, 2007, and was first assigned to patrol in the 32 Precinct. In 2015, he transferred to the 113 Squad and was promoted to Detective on February 24, 2017. Since 2019, Det. Cato was assigned to the Force Investigation Division where he was an integral part of Officer-involved shooting investigations. He leaves behind his wife and two children. He will be greatly missed.
