DEA Headquarters Delegate Tommy Donohue reports that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection of Newark is a great partner to the members in the NYPD Real Time Crime Center, which brought this tragedy to our attention.
CBP Newark lost one of their Supervisory CBP Officers (SCBPO) in a house fire that occurred on January 13, 2023 at approximately 12:30 a.m.
SCBPO Jacqueline “Jackie” Montanaro made it out of her house, but once she realized that one of her daughters was still inside, she did what every parent would do and ran back into the house without regard to her own safety. Jackie and her daughter had to be rescued and resuscitated by the Fire Department. Unfortunately, her daughter Madelyne passed away later that morning. Fortunately, Jackie’s husband and other daughter made it out safely, but, tragically, Jackie also succumbed to her injuries 24 hours later.
Jackie was a mother and wife, and a dear friend and co-worker to many. She was dedicated, detail-oriented, and had high standards, as she was the training supervisor who every officer knew, as well as the Vice President of the Customs United Service Alliance. Jackie’s husband Will and surviving child Elena are going to need all the help they can get. Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated.
