Recently, the DEA has been made aware that DCAS sent out letters to 600 members of the service informing them to get the Vaccine or risk being placed on Leave Without Pay (LWOP) status or terminated.
However, on September 30, 2022, the New York Police Department issued a Finest Message indicating it is voluntarily refraining from placing members of the service on leave without pay status or terminating them because of non-compliance with the Vaccine Mandate until further notice. This is because the Mandate has been challenged in Court and the cases are not yet resolved.
Therefore, please do not panic, and recognize that the Department is not terminating or placing on LWOP any member at this time. When matters are resolved in Court, we will keep you apprised of any changes. At this time, however, you can ignore any letter you received from DCAS.
In the interim –
If members change their minds about receiving the vaccine, members can find the schedule and locations for Department-provided vaccinations on the intranet portal: https://covid19.nypd.org/health
Additionally, members of the service can use the “New York City COVID-19 Vaccination Finder” to find a City-run vaccination center at https://vaccinefinder.nyc.gov/
If you have any other questions regarding this situation, please contact the Personnel Bureau at [email protected]
